
My Copycat Version of a Local Favorite

There’s a super popular stir-fry sauce that everyone around my area in Japan seems to know. It’s one of those sauces that makes you want to have stir-fried dishes again and again, so when I was away from Japan, I found myself craving it more than once.

I had wanted to recreate it for a long time, but I never actually got around to making it. This time, I finally tested my own copycat version, and I was surprised by how easy it was. You can make this homemade stir fry sauce in about 10 minutes, so I wanted to share it with you!
A Simple Homemade Stir Fry Sauce You’ll Want to Keep

The combination of soy sauce, sake, mirin, pple, garlic, and fresh ginger gives this sauce a sweet, savory, fruity flavor with a little heat from red pepper. It’s especially delicious with chicken, but you can use it with your favorite stir-fried meat and vegetables.

If you’ve been wondering how to make homemade stir fry sauce, this is an easy place to start. Everything goes into the blender, so there’s no complicated process at all. Just simmer the sake and mirin, add everything to the blender, and blend until smooth. That’s it!
Ingredients(For 7 oz (200 g) of meat.)
- Soy sauce: 3 tbsp
- Sake: 3 tbsp
- Mirin: 3 tbsp
- Grated apple: 75 oz
- Fresh ginger: ¼ oz
- Garlic: ¼ oz
- Sugar: 1 tsp
- Red pepper: ½ tsp–, to taste
Instructions
- Add sake and mirin to a small saucepan and simmer over low heat for about 2 minutes to cook off the alcohol.
- Turn off the heat and add soy sauce and sugar.
- Add the grated apple, fresh ginger, garlic, and the sauce from Step 2 to a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Add red pepper to taste and blend briefly to combine.
