Hi, I’m Nao. I live in a rural part of Japan and work full-time, and when I’m not working I like going to the beach and taking my dog for walks in the woods.
I cook simple meals at home as part of everyday life, and that’s what I share here — real Japanese food as it’s actually eaten, not restaurant-style dishes and not always aesthetic, but honest, practical, and shaped by daily routines and the seasons.
I focus on simple, easy recipes because that’s how I cook myself. I work full-time, and for me Japanese food has always been about comfort, not perfection — something that fits into daily life and makes ordinary days feel good.
I once lived in Canada, and it was there that my curiosity about Japanese food really grew. Being away from Japan during the pandemic made me crave it more deeply, and I started thinking about how to explain and share Japanese home cooking with people who don’t live here.
Along with each recipe, I share a bit of cultural context so you can understand not just how to cook a dish, but how food fits into everyday life in Japan.
If you’re curious about Japanese food beyond sushi and ramen, I hope this blog feels like a small window into that world!
Nao♡
